Access Cards
Your student ID card provides you access to the facilities via the card readers next to or on doors. In the case of the CTS, the door access is tied to the room booking system, to ensure only you can access the studio during your booked time.
Lost Cards
If you lose your student ID card:
- Check with the DMU Security Office to see if the card has been turned in.
- If Security does not have your card, notify a Technical Instructor immediately so studio access via that card can be cancelled.
- Then report to FOTAC on the ground floor of Gateway House to order a replacement card.
If Your Access Card Does Not Work
During normal operation with an “online” (square grey) card reader, the blue light on the card reader will flash before it becomes green and the door is released. For the smaller card-operated on-door locks, the reader will only flash green.
In case the light flashes red, access to the room/area has been denied. When this happens, either you do not have access rights or the access rights programmed on the card need to be updated according to the following procedure.
Before a card is usable the first time, or after it has been reprogrammed with new access options by Security, the card has to be updated. In order to update it, place the card in front of one of the special online card readers (square grey boxes). The reader has to flash blue for several seconds while the card is being updated successfully. Please be patient and allow the online reader this time to update!
If the card still does not work and you know you should have access to the facility, contact one of the Technical Instructors.
Out of Hours Access
If you meet the eligibility criteria given in the Hours of Access table above, you can formally request special out-of-hours access for a desired facility. Approval typically covers one academic year.
Note that this process takes time, since it requires multiple approval steps. You must give at least a three-day lead-time, preferably more, for submitting the form prior to the first time you wish to use the out-of-hours access.
Please be aware that there is no technical support available out-of-hours. You need to be familiar with the equipment you want to use before entering the studio spaces. If you have special technical needs for your out-of-hours session, be sure to discuss this with the appropriate Technical Instructors ahead of time.
Requesting Out-of-Hours Access
Undergraduates
- Get an appropriate out-of-hours access form from a Technical Instructor. If you want access to more than one building (such as Queens and Clephan), you will need to complete a different form for each building.
- Fill out the form. Do not miss the health and safety component that you have to sign, which may be attached or on the back side of the form.
- Have your approving tutor sign the form.
- Submit the form to the Faculty of Technology Executive Support Office, GH 4.30, for approval by the Faculty Manager. Once approved, the Faculty will forward the form to Security.
Postgraduates
- Complete an online out-of-hours access Form B. A link to the form is available here.
Managing Out-of-Hours Access
In order to use your special out-of-hours access, you must:
- Complete the above Requesting Access process.
- Make an advance booking for the desired studio space.
- Sign in at the Security Office (Estates building opposite side of Gateway House) on the day, presenting a print out of the booking and a valid student ID.
- If using PACE, inform the PACE Building Monitor that the space has been vacated upon finishing the practice/rehearsal.
Guest Access
Bringing guests into the studios to be recorded is allowed.
However, if you wish to bring in any guests into the studios out of hours (including into the CTS outside normal building hours):
- You must list the names of your guests in the booking description of the booking.
- AND register them on the day with Security BEFORE you enter the studio(s).
